The client

NightCafe is an AI art platform. It sits where two of Mooning’s practices meet: our AI work, which covers the tools and content that generative models make possible, and our community work on X and Discord.

That overlap matters. An AI product community is not the same as a crypto community or a fan community. The people in it are often makers as well as users, and much of what keeps them around is each other: the work they share, the techniques they swap and the conversation that forms around both.

The challenge

NightCafe needed its community to grow in two places at once. On X (Twitter), the goal was a larger and more engaged following. On Discord, the goal was a server with more going on in it.

The two goals are connected but not the same. X is where new people discover a platform. Discord is where the people who already care decide whether to stay involved. Growing one without the other gives you either a crowd that never settles or a server nobody new ever finds.

What we did

Mooning ran X (Twitter) and Discord strategy and community management for NightCafe. The scope covered strategy as well as day-to-day management on both channels.

On X, Mooning’s community management means platform-native content, timely commentary and real participation in the conversations the audience is already having, rather than a feed of announcements. On Discord, it means server structure, moderation, onboarding and programming that gives members a reason to come back.

We judge community work on health rather than raw follower counts: who is joining, how much they engage and whether the server is busier as a result.

Results

Over the engagement:

  • More than 9,000 new followers on X.
  • A 43% lift in engagement.
  • 97% more Discord messages.

The Discord number is the one we would point to first. A 97% increase in messages means the server roughly doubled its conversation, and conversation is the part of a community that is hardest to manufacture. The X numbers show the top of the funnel working: more people finding NightCafe, and more of them engaging once they did.

For AI product teams, the lesson is simple. Your users are often your best content, and the channels that let them talk to each other do more for retention than any announcement you post on their behalf.
